Anonymous access in SharePoint
Anonymous access in SharePoint allows users to access a SharePoint site without requiring them to sign in. This can be useful for sharing public content or allowing external users to view specific resources without the need for authentication.
How to Enable Anonymous Access with SharePoint Online?
We will follow these steps to enable anonymous access to a SharePoint Online site.
First, we have to enable anonymous access at the organizational level for your Sharepoint site,
- Navigate to the SharePoint Admin Center (you’ll need SharePoint Admin or Global Admin access). You can find it from the Office365 admin portal in the Admin centers Choose SharePoint it will open the Sharepoint admin center site for you.
- After opening the SharePoint Admin Center, Go to Active Sites and search for the site that you want to enable Anonymous Access on.
- Select the Site that you want to enable the anonymous access on it and click on the Sharing option.
- Edit the settings and select Anyone to allow anonymous access to your site.
Next, we want to enable anonymous access for a specific List to enable anonymous users to access this list with a specific permission,
- Open your Site Collection and navigate to your list
- Click on the Share Option
- A new dialog with a sharing option will open to you, Choose the permission that you want to share with the anonymous users @ the way that the anonymous will access your SharePoint Online list.
- Click on the Gear of the link settings
- Select Anyone and click apply
- Then copy the link and share it with the users you want to access your site anonymously.
This is how to enable Anonymous Access with SharePoint Online.
If you want to enable Anonymous Access for a specific item in SharePoint Online list, select the item and clisk share and do the same steps to grant the permission to the anonymous users.
Remember that enabling anonymous access should be done thoughtfully, considering security and privacy implications. Make sure to restrict access to sensitive content appropriately and prevent the wrong people from accessing these data.
