Microsoft Power automate is one of the four products of the Microsoft Power platform that consider a cloud-based automation platform that allows users to build automated processes across different apps and services in no-code/low-code. For more details, you can check Part1

Is there a desktop version of Power Automate?

Yes, there is a desktop app for Power Automate that you can use on your machine to automate personnel desktop flows on your machine, this version is what we called Power Automate for desktop.

Power Automate for desktop

Power Automate for desktops is directed at home users, small businesses, enterprises, and larger corporations. It is primarily intended for anyone who performs simple or complex rule-based tasks on their workstations.

  • Power Automate for desktop Enables you to automate all repetitive desktop processes.
    • You can automate both legacy applications, and desktop applications, Excel files, and folders.
    • You can organize your documents using dedicated files and folders actions.
    • You can create backups, and converting files 
  • Power Automate for desktop enables you to record your activity and automatically convert these steps into actions.
  • Power Automate for desktop available now for Windows 11 users at no additional cost.
  • You can Sign in to Power Automate for desktop Windows application using one of the following accounts:
    • A Microsoft account: Flows built with Power Automate using a Microsoft account are stored automatically on the users’ OneDrive
    • A work or school account: your default environment must contain a Dataverse database.
    • An Organization premium account : Unlock the full spectrum of RPA features such as premium cloud connectors.

Power Automate for desktop now offers direct connectivity to the cloud without the use of on-premises data gateways

System requirements:

  • A device that runs Windows 10 Home, Windows 10 Pro, Windows 10 Enterprise, Windows 11 Home, Windows 11 Pro, Windows 11 Enterprise, Windows Server 2016, or Windows Server 2019. ARM devices are not supported.
  • Minimum hardware
    • Storage: 1GB
    • RAM: 2GB

    • Storage: 2GB
    • RAM: 4GB
  • .NET Framework 4.7.2 or later

To get started with the Power Automate desktop, Download the Power Automate installer.

Microsoft Power Automate desktop is a free automation tool, included in Windows 11 as a native app, search for ‘Power Automate’ in the Windows search and you will find it as an in-built application that you can use.

If you are Windows 10 user, this app needs to be downloaded and installed.
